TODAY'S CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY...MINO REITANO

Italian singer Beniamino ‘Mino’ Reitano was born on 7th December 1944 and passed away on 27th January 2009, was married and has 2 daughters. He is also a composer, songwriter and actor.

When he was a kid, he took violin, trumpet and piano lessons for 8 years and when he was 10, Mino made a guest appearance on a TV show.  His debut as a rock and roll musician was at the Cassano allo Ionio Festival when he participated along with his 3 brothers. 

At age 15, his first 45 giri was released, which helped him get a promotion on the popular Italian magazine ‘TV Sorrisi e Canzoni’.  Later that year, Mino travelled to Germany together with his brothers and gave regular performances in clubs, even playing on one occasion with the ‘Beatles’.

Mino participated 6 times in the yearly prestigious San Remo Festival, but never won.  Some of his songs include ‘Un cuore che ti amava tanto’, ‘Meglio una sera piangere da solo’ and ‘Italia’.  He composed almost all of his songs and also wrote songs for other famous artists as well as wrote children’s songs.  Besides the San Remo Festival, Reitano performed in several other music festivals and TV shows.  During his +45-year career, Mino had 24 albums and 59 singles.  

Apart from music, Mino starred in 7 Italian comedy films as well as wrote a book.  He also received several awards and recognition.

Mino died at age 64 from bowel cancer.
