Melanie Jayne Chisholm, better known as Mel C or Sporty Spice, was born 49 years ago in Merseyside, England and has a daughter. She is a singer, songwriter and TV personality and is best known as one of the members of the all-girl group, Spice Girls.
After finishing high school, Mel took a 3-year course to obtain a diploma in musical theatre, singing and dancing. In 1994, shortly before ending the course, she responded to a weekly newspaper’s advert who were looking for candidates to form a girl band and was chosen, so she left college.
Along with other 4 girls, Mel became a member of the ‘Spice Girls’. Their first album was released in 1996 and was an enormous success worldwide, so much so that it soared to number one in over 17 countries and sold around 30 million copies globally. It features the number one hits ‘ Wannabe’, ‘Say you’ll be There’, ‘2 become 1’, ‘Who do you think you Are?’ and ‘Mama’.
Likewise, their second album was also extremely successful and included ‘Too Much’, ‘Spice up your Life’, ‘Stop’, ‘Viva Forever’ and ‘Goodbye’. In 1998, Mel sang ‘When You’re Gone’ in duet with Canadian singer Bryan Adams.
In late 1999, Mel released her first single as a solo artist, followed by an album and a second single. She then embarked on a world tour to promote her work and both singles and album reached the Top 10. Two more singles followed but were not successful. Mel persevered and released another single ‘Never be the Same Again’ which turned out to be a number one worldwide hit. It was followed by another number one hit ‘I turn to You’.
Mel was still a ‘Spice Girl’ although she had released some solo material, so in the year 2000, the group’s final album came out and like the previous ones gained worldwide success. Afterwards, the group members went their separate ways and the band dissolved.
To date, Mel released 9 albums, 46 singles and 43 music videos and received 16 awards. She starred in a couple of movies and appeared in several TV programmes. Mel is also an active philanthropist.
