French actress Sophie Marceau was born 59 years ago as Sophie Daniele Sylvie Maupu in Paris and has a son and a daughter.
In 1980, Sophie made her first movie appearance in ‘La Boume’, after the casting director had seen some of her photos taken by a modelling agency and selected her for a role. The film was extremely successful not just in France but also in various other countries in Europe. As a matter of fact, its sequel was released 2 years later.
To date, Sophie has starred in many movies of different genres – from romantic-comedy to drama, from historic to thriller etc. These include ‘Fort Saganne’, ‘Police’, ‘L’Etudiante’, ‘Chouans’, ‘Braveheart’, ‘Anna Karenina’, ‘The World is not Enough’, ‘Don’t look Back’, ‘Jailbirds’ and ‘I Love America’, amongst many others.
Sophie wrote and/or directed 4 movies and even starred in 2 of them. She also performed in a theatrical production, appeared in several TV commercials and magazine covers as well as published a semi-autobiographical novel.
Due to her movies, advertising campaigns and acting as France’s cultural ambassador, Sophie is particularly famous in Asian countries like China, Japan and South Korea.
On a personal note, Marceau is a classically trained cellist (i.e. plays the violoncello), and she is seen playing it in the movie ‘Lost and Found’.
During her career, Sophie received numerous awards including 2 Cabourg, a Cesar, a Jupiter and a Goldene Kamera. In 2003, she was appointed Officer of the French Order of Arts and Letters.
