
English singer-songwriter, TV presenter, radio host and DJ Kim Wilde was born 65 years ago as Kim Smith in Chiswick, Middlesex, is divorced and has a son and a daughter.
Kim comes from a family of musicians as her father was a rock and roll singer and her mum was a member of an all-female singing and dancing band. Her dad and brother practically wrote all her songs until the mid 80s. They were inspired by several groups and singers like Ultravox, OMD, Kraftwerk and Gary Numan, amongst others.
In 1981, Kim had her first successful single ‘Kids in America’ which placed 2nd in the UK charts. This was followed by her debut album which included another two hits ‘Chequered love’ and ‘Water on Glass’. A year later, Kim’s second album was released, featuring the hits ‘Cambodia’ and ‘View from a Bridge’.
Her third and fourth albums, however, did not achieve the expected success. Albeit, in 1987, Kim made a breakthrough with the US number one hit ‘You keep me hangin’ On’. Success continued further with 4 more famous songs: ‘Hey Mr Heartache’, ‘Four letter Word’, ‘Never trust a Stranger’ and ‘You Came’.
During the last 35 years of career, Kim released 14 more albums and toured numerous countries around the world. She has also received several awards including a Brit, a Bambi, a Diamond and a European Platinum.
Apart from music, Kim has a passion for gardening and when she was pregnant with her first child, she took a horticulture course, as she wished to create a garden for her kids. She also appeared in a couple of TV programmes about gardening and even managed to win some awards as well as wrote 2 books regarding this topic. Kim is also a radio programme presenter as well as is involved in doing commercials for ‘green’ entities.
