TODAY'S CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY...SHARON STONE

American actress Sharon Vonne Stone was born 65 years ago in Meadville, Pennsylvania and has 3 adopted children.

Sharon graduated from high school and attended university but dropped out to become a model.  She joined a modelling agency and then travelled to Europe to carry out this job, however, she decided to quit and start an acting career back in her native US.

Stone’s big screen debut was in 1980 when she was an ‘extra’ in ‘Stardust Memories’.  During that decade, she starred in various movies like ‘Silver Spoons’, ‘Bay City Blues’, ‘Cold Steel’, ‘Above the Law’ and TV series like ‘Remington Steele’, ‘Magnum P.I.’, ‘T.J. Hooker’ and ‘War and Remembrance’.

 At the beginning of the 90s, Sharon was cast in ‘Total Recall’ alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger, which was very successful and helped her become more popular.  In fact, the following year, she was offered no less than five movie roles.  She reached real stardom and became a ‘sex symbol’ when she played the main protagonist in the erotic thriller ‘Basic Instinct’, starring also Michael Douglas.

For the rest of that decade, Sharon continued starring in numerous films of different genres including ‘Intersection’, The Specialist’, ‘Casino’, ‘Diabolique’, ‘Sphere’ and ‘Gloria’, amongst others.

In 2001, Sharon was hospitalised and took a 2-year break to recover.  She resumed her career in 2003 and in the last 20 years starred in over 20 films and 15 TV productions.  So far, Stone received 11 awards including a Golden Globe, 3 Hollywood Film, a Primetime Emmy and a Saturn, amongst others.

Sharon is also a peace activist and was awarded with a Peace Summit Award after working for persons with HIV/AIDS.
