TODAY'S CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY.. TERENCE TRENT D'ARBY

 

Terence Trent D’Arby (name changed to Sananda Francesco Maitreya in 2001) was born on March 15th, 1960 in New York, USA, is married and has two children.  He is both a singer and songwriter.

When he was 18, he trained as a boxer and even won a lightweight championship. Though he was offered to attend boxing school he refused and went to college instead. Three years later, he joined a band The Touch of which he was the leader and even released an album with.  He also collaborated with another band ‘Bojangles’ for a short period of time.

In 1987, he released his debut solo album ‘Introducing the Hardline according to Terence Trent D’Arby’.  This album included some of his most famous hits: ‘Wishing Well’, which reached number one in the US charts, ‘Sign your Name’ and ‘Dance Little Sister’. The actual album also peaked to number one in the UK, Australia and Switzerland.  Two more albums were released, one in 1989 and the other in 1993, but they were not successful as the first one.

After he legally changed his name, he continued with releasing songs and also took part in two movies as well as a couple of TV series.
