TODAY'S CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY - LOU BEGA

David Lubega Balemezi was born 47 years ago in Munich, Germany.  His father is from Uganda whilst his mother is Sicilian, and he is an only child.

Lou’s career began in 1988, when together with two other guys he formed a hip-hop group.  However, it was only in 1990 that they released their first CD.  In his teenage years, he went to Miami, USA, and came across Latin music.  Now, Bega is known for his ability to combine 40’s and 50’s music with modern rhythms.  This led him to ‘adjust’ an instrumental piece released in 1949 by Perez Prado, resulting in his only number one hit ‘Mambo No 5 (a little bit of…)’.  He was also nominated for a Grammy Award for this song.

In all, Bega released 6 albums, the latest one issued in 2021.  Lou appeared in various TV shows like ‘Ally McBeal’ and ‘Queen Latifah’ as well as performed on stage for royalties and international organisations.  He also hosted prestigious events like the Grammy and American Music Awards, and provided songs and music videos for Disney channels.
