TODAY'S CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY...BOB DYLAN

Robert Allen Zimmerman was born on 24th May 1941 in Minnesota, USA and is both a singer and song-writer.  He was married twice and has 6 children.

During his childhood and teenage years, he listened to different music genres including blues, country and rock ‘n’ roll.  Whilst in High School, he formed various bands and sang covers of Elvis Presley’s and Little Richard’s songs.  Meanwhile, his music genre interest changed to American folk music and in 1961 he paid a visit to his idol Woody Guthrie in New York.

A year after, his first album was released, which included the songs ‘Blowin’ in the Wind’ and ‘A Hard Rain’s a-gonna fall’, amongst others.  More albums followed until 1966, when he had a motorcycle accident and he had to temporarily quit touring.  During his recovery, Bob wrote and recorded several songs which were later released in an album.

Throughout his +60-year career, Dylan has been a major influence on numerous music genres and is considered as one of the most prominent profiles, both in music and culture, of the 20th century.  His records sold over 125 million copies worldwide, hence he is considered as one of the best-selling artists ever.

He won several awards including an Academy and a Golden Globe, 10 Grammy and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.  Bob was also honoured with a Pulitzer Prize citation as well as a Nobel Prize in Literature.

Apart from music, Dylan is a paintings artist and prime art galleries showcased his works.  He also issued 8 books in this regard.
