Richard Lewis Springthorpe, better known as Rick Springfield, was born 73 years ago in Guildford, NSW, Australia, is married and has 2 children.  He is a singer/songwriter, musician, actor and record producer.

At the age of 13, Ricky learnt the guitar and 6 years later became a member of the group Rockhouse.  He joined other bands, namely one called Zoot, and of which Ricky was the singer and guitarist.  He also wrote a couple of songs named ‘Hey Pinky’ and ‘Freak’ which although were quite successful, the group still disbanded in 1971.

At that time, Ricky was living in England and released his first single as a solo artist which went well on the singles chart.  In 1972, he moved to the US and a year later his second album was issued, however, it was not that successful.  He then plunged into acting and for a year starred in a cartoon series named Mission: Magic!

Returning to music, another album was released, just in Australia, which included the song ‘Take a Hand’ which made it to the US Top 50.  He once again resumed his acting career and performed in various TV dramas.

Ricky finally rose to fame with the number one worldwide hit ‘Jessie’s Girl’, released in 1981 and managed to win the Grammy Award for Best Rock Vocal Male Performance.  In the next 4 years, more albums followed which also proved successful.  He also performed in the concert for charity ‘Live Aid’ in 1985.

To date, Ricky released 41 albums, 35 singles and 11 music videos.  He also wrote 2 books and won 3 awards.
