TODAY'S CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY...MARCO MASINI

Italian singer Marco Masini was born 58 years ago in Florence, region of Tuscany.  He is also a musician, pianist and songwriter.

At only 3 years old, Marco began showing interest in music after he got a toy piano for Christmas and started taking music lessons soon after.  Whilst in high school, he formed a band named Errata Corrige together with some friends.

He left school at 16, against his family wishes, and for a while worked in his dad’s bar.  He had a lot of conflicts with him which worried his mum a lot.  She then discovered she had cancer, and her husband had no other option but to sell the bar.  Meanwhile, Marco left for the army and returned home just a day before his mum passed away.  This naturally made Marco deeply sad as he wished he could have spent more time with her.

Marco commenced his music career by collaborating with other Italian artists such as Umberto Tozzi and Raf.  Then, in 1990, he won 1st place as new artist in the prestigious yearly event of the San Remo Festival with the song ‘Disperato’.  A year later, he once again participated in the festival and placed third with the controversial song ‘Perche’ lo Fai’.

His third album followed, which sold more than a million copies and led him to worldwide success, featuring songs like ‘T’Innamorerai’, ‘Vaffanculo’, ‘Paura D’Amare’ and ‘La Liberta`’, amongst others.

From the rest of the 90s until 2020, 28 more albums were issued, spread amongst studio, compilation and live, plus more than 40 singles.  He also appeared as a guest in collaboration with other music artists and wrote 3 books.

In 2004, he won the San Remo Festival for the second time with the song ‘L’Uomo Volante’ and participated again in 2020 with ‘Il Confronto’, placing 15th.
