Scottish actor Ewan Gordon McGregor was born 52 years ago in Perth, is married and has 5 children.
After leaving school when he was 16, Ewan worked backstage in a theatre and took a drama foundation course. Two years later, he went to London to study drama.
His acting career began in 1993 with a leading role in a TV series as well as a part in another TV programme. The following year, he made his first big screen appearance in the movie ‘Being Human’ and then starred in another film named ‘Shallow Grave’. For the rest of the 90s, Ewan acted in 4 more movies, but he rose to international fame with the black comedy-drama film ‘Trainspotting’.
In the last 2 decades, McGregor proceeded with his career and starred in numerous films of different genres including romantic-comedy, thrillers, sci-fi, horror, war, fantasy etc. He also voiced animated movie characters and performed in some musicals.
Apart from acting, Ewan is also a motorcycle enthusiast. In 2004, he joined his best friend and went on a 3½-months international motorbike trip from London to New York. During this trip, they visited some UNICEF programmes and went on to create a TV series plus a book, called ‘Long Way Round’. A similar trip, named ‘Long Way Down’, was repeated 3 years later, this time departing from Scotland all the way to South Africa, spread over a period of almost 3 months. In December 2019, Ewan and his friend departed for the third time on a 3-month journey called ‘Long Way Up’ from Argentina to California. McGregor is also an avid philanthropist, particularly in support of UNICEF and GO campaign.
During his career, Ewan received 29 awards, including 1 Golden Globe, 1 Primetime Emmy & 5 Empire, amongst others.
