
At 9pm CEST, the first of 3 live shows of the much awaited yearly Eurovision Song Contest will be held. This popular event will take place in the city of Liverpool, UK and hosted by English actress Hannah Waddingham, English singer Alesha Dixon, Irish actor and comedian Graham Norton and Ukranian singer Julia Sanina.
As per tradition, the event is usually held in the previous year’s winning country i.e. Ukraine, however, this year it will be exceptionally held in the UK in view of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
A total of 37 countries will be participating in this contest, out of which there are the ‘Big-5’ namely UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain who automatically qualify, plus the winners Ukraine.
Tonight, the first semi-final, the following countries will be competing: Malta, Croatia, Ireland, Latvia, Norway, Portugal, Serbia, Azerbaijan, Czech Republic, Finland, Israel, Moldova, Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland. Out of these 15 countries, 10 will be chosen and hence qualify for Saturday’s Grand Final.
The second semi-final will take place on Thursday, 11th May.
