Singer, songwriter and actress Alanis Nadine Morissette was born 49 years ago in the capital city of Canada, Ottawa, is married and has 3 children.
Alanis began to play the piano at the age of 6, and started taking dancing lessons the following year. She attended elementary, high school and college where she graduated. When she was 10 years old, she wrote her very first song.
Morissette’s first demo was recorded in 1987, followed by a second one 2 years later. Unfortunately, the latter was stolen in a burglary and thus was never heard. Her debut album was released in 1991 in her native country only and featured the Top 20 single ‘Too Hot’ and 2 Top 40 singles ‘Walk Away’ and ‘Feel your Love’. She started gaining popularity and the following year her second album was issued, again in Canada only, and which contained 3 Top 40 singles.
Her third album ‘Jagged Little Pill’ came out in 1995, internationally this time, and was a huge success for Alanis. In fact, in the USA alone, it sold over 16 million copies and 33 million globally. It featured her major hit ‘Ironic’ plus other chart-topping tracks like ‘All I really want’, ‘Hand in my Pocket’, ‘You Learn’ and ‘Head over Feet’. She then embarked on a long world tour.
To date, Alanis released 25 albums, 33 music videos, 2 EPs and 55 singles and had 6 Canadian number-one hits. She also collaborated with several other artists and appeared in various music events as well as movies and TV productions.
So far, Morissette has received 38 awards out of 80 nominations. These include 7 Grammy, 14 Juno, 3 MTV Video Music and 2 World Music, amongst others. She was also inducted in the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2022.
