TODAY'S CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY...TONY HADLEY

English singer Anthony Patrick Hadley was born in London on 2nd June 1960, is married and has 5 children.   He also writes songs, is an actor and radio presenter.

In 1976, Tony created the group ‘The Cut’, which later changed to ‘Spandau Ballet’.  He was the band’s lead singer and is known for his strong voice and elegant appearance.  During the 80’s, the band gained international fame particularly with hits like ‘Gold’, ‘True’ and ‘Through the Barricades’.

In 1990, however, the group split due to lack of success of their 8th album.  In view of this, Tony pursued a solo career and in 1992 his first album was released but was not very successful.

Tony persevered and decided to set up his own discography business and his first single ‘Build me Up’ followed.  In 1996, he performed live in the rock opera ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ which was aired on radio.  Later that year, Tony went on a European orchestral tour with other artists like Joe Cocker.

During the two decades that followed, he collaborated with several artists on tours as well as TV shows, and issued more albums.  These works helped him gain popularity once again.

In 2009, ‘Spandau Ballet’ reunited again and toured for 2 years, with great success.  In spite of this, however, the group split once again and this time for good.

Tony participated a couple of times in the Italian yearly San Remo Song Festival, presented some radio programmes and starred in movies and various TV productions, not just in his native country but also internationally.

Last year, he celebrated his 40th anniversary in the music industry and embarked on a UK tour.  To date, he released 6 studio and 6 live albums, an EP and 23 singles and also published 2 books.

Hadley was honoured with the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire award for his charitable work concerning children.
