American singer Paula Julie Abdul was born 61 years ago in San Fernando, California, is divorced and does not have any children. She is also a dancer, TV personality, actress and choreographer.
When she was a kid, Paula started taken tap, ballet and jazz dancing lessons and in later years was the lead choreographer of a basketball cheerleading team. After graduating from high school, she attended university where she took a course in broadcasting.
It was in 1982 when the famous band ‘The Jacksons’ noticed Paula dancing in one of the basketball games and asked her to take care of the video choreography of one of their popular tracks ‘Torture’ as well as 3 of Janet Jackson’s songs. She was also in charge of choreography during one of the band’s tours.
After taking coaching lessons to ameliorate her singing, Paula released her debut album in 1988 which was extremely successful, peaking to first place on the US albums charts. In addition, 4 singles which featured in the same album were also number one hits, namely ‘Straight Up’, ‘Forever your Girl’, ‘Cold Hearted’ and ‘Opposites Attract’.
Success continued for Paula with the issuance of her second album in 1991 which included another 2 number one singles ‘Rush Rush’ and ‘The Promise of a New Day’. In December that year, she was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Abdul then took a short break to resolve some personal issues and resumed her career. By the end of the 90s, she released her third album, issued 2 workout dance videos as well as was responsible for the choreography of some movies and theatrical productions.
In the last 2 decades, Paula released 4 compilations albums, 2 singles, 2 video albums and a music video. She appeared in several TV shows including ‘American Idol’ and ‘The Masked Singer’, as well as held a residency in Las Vegas and gave 20 concerts in a span of 5 months. She also was in charge of the choreography of various films, other artists’ music videos and other productions.
During her long career, Paula was honoured with 16 awards, including a Grammy, 3 American Music and 5 MTV Video Music, amongst others.
