American actor Richard Tiffany Gere was born 74 years ago in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is married and has 3 children.
As a high school student, Richard stood out in gymnastics as well as music, and succeeded in obtaining a gymnastics scholarship. He entered university and studied philosophy, however, he dropped out after 2 years and never graduated.
Gere’s career took off in 1969 when he performed in a theatrical play, and continued stage acting also through the 70s, whilst also making his big screen debut. During the 80s, Richard became famous when he starred in numerous movies such as ‘American Gigolo’, ‘An Officer and a Gentleman’, ‘King David’ and ‘No Mercy’. He continued gaining popularity in the next decade with his interpretations in major films like ‘Internal Affairs’, ‘Pretty Woman’ alongside Julia Roberts, ‘Sommersby’, ‘Primal Fear’, ‘Red Corner’ and ‘Runaway Bride’, amongst others.
In the last decades, Gere proceeded with his career and appeared in over 25 movies, some of which he was also the producer. He also acted in some TV series/films and also voiced animated characters. Richard is also expected to star in an upcoming comedy-drama movie named ‘Longing’.
Gere is an avid philanthropist and supports numerous charitable institutions regarding human rights, AIDS, ecological causes, peace and justice.
