American actor Don Johnson was born 74 years ago as Donnie Wayne Johnson in Flat Creek, Missouri, is married and has 5 children. He is also a producer and singer.
After graduating from high school, Don attended university with theatre as his major subject, but left after 12 months. He then moved to San Francisco, California and studied at a non-profit theatre company.
In 1969, Don played a leading role in a stage production and the following year was cast in a the movie ‘The Magic Garden of Stanley Sweetheart’. Until 1984, he continued starring various TV productions, movies and stage plays, but failed to become a star. His career then took a positive turn when he interpreted the character of police detective Sonny Crockett in the popular TV series ‘Miami Vice’ alongside fellow actor Philip Michael Thomas. By the time the series ended in 1990, Johnson had finally become a big international star. During those 6 years, apart from ‘Miami Vice’, Don also starred in a few TV films and other programmes which helped him gain more popularity.
Johnson proceeded with his career and acted in numerous movies, both on the big and on the small screen. Another famous series he was cast in is ‘Nash Bridges’, a police drama production which ran between 1996 and 2001, and in which he played the leading role.
During his +55-year career, Don starred in over 40 films and more than 55 TV series/productions, some of which he was also a co-executive producer or executive producer. He received a Saturn Award, a Golden Globe and an APBA Offshore World Cup. He also achieved a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1996.
Apart from acting, Don also released 2 studio albums in 1986 and 1989, as well as 6 singles, one of which is ‘Heartbeat’ which placed number 5 on the US charts and also reached the Top 10 in several European countries. A compilation album was released in 1997.
