American singer and dancer Amy Paulette Stewart was born 68 years ago in Washington D.C. and is married with no children. She is singer Sinitta’s aunt.
At just 4 years old, she started attending singing and dancing lessons. During her youth, Amii enrolled for a university course but left shortly afterwards to study modern dance and ballet.
When she was 19, Stewart had a job with a musical production company and toured with them to Miami, New York and London and the famous theatres of Broadway and West End. In 1977, her first song was released, named ‘You really touched my Heart’.
Fourteen months later, her debut album came out which featured the tracks ‘Knock on Wood’ and ‘Light my Fire/137 Disco Heaven’. The single ‘Knock on Wood’ was a number one US hit on the Billboard chart and also made it with the Top 10 in several European countries and Australia, plus earning Amii a platinum record. A second album followed, released during the same year, and featured the successful singles: ‘Jealousy’, ‘Paradise Bird’ and ‘The Letter’.
Since the beginning of the 80s to date, Stewart had 24 albums and 36 singles. Since she had a successful career mainly in Europe, she decided to move to and live in Italy and even speaks fluent Italian.
Amii is also an avid philanthropist and has been working as goodwill ambassador for UNICEF Italy for over 20 years. She was involved in several projects regarding children, AIDS, etc and has recorded a number of songs in different languages to raise funds to support these institutions.
In 2007, Amii participated in the yearly San Remo Music Festival, interpreting the song ‘Schiavo D’Amore’ sung in duet with Piero Mazzocchetti. She has also appeared in a TV talent show as well as performed in a rock opera.
