Italian singer and songwriter Ivana Spagna was born 70 years ago in Valeggio del Mincio and is single.

Ivana entered the music industry at the age of 14 when in 1969, she participated in a singing competition.  In the early 70s, she recorded a 45 laps which was unsuccessful.  Afterwards, she performed in various Italian discos with a couple of groups as well as as a solo, under different stage names.

Spagna rose to international stardom in 1982 with the song ‘Easy Lady’, which was a number one hit in her native Italy and placed with the Top 5 in several European countries’ music charts. 

The year after, it was followed by another big worldwide hit ‘Call Me’ which globally sold more than two million copies.  Ivana also released other successful hits including ‘Dance, dance, Dance’ which was the winning entry of the 1987 Festivalbar, ‘Every Girl and Boy’ and ‘This Generation’.

Until the mid 90s, Ivana released 3 more albums, wrote songs for other artists like Corona and was the Italian voice of the song ‘Circle of Life’ taken from the soundtrack of the famous animated movie ‘The Lion King’.

In 1995, Spagna placed third in the Sanremo Festival with the song ‘Gente Come Noi’.  The following year, she participated again by singing ‘E io penso a Te’, this time arriving in 4th place.  Ivana also had another successful track called ‘Lupi Solitari’.

In the last 2 decades, Ivana released 6 more albums as well as sang in duet with numerous other artists and bands.  She participated 4 more times in the Sanremo Festival and also made guest appearances in various TV shows like ‘Un disco per l’Estate’, ‘La Notte Vola’ and recently, ‘A Voice for San Marino’.

In all, Spagna recorded 13 studio albums and 51 singles and is considered as one of the best Italian female artists for being successful both locally and internationally, with more than 11 million records sold worldwide.

Ivana also won several awards and published 7 books.
