English singer-songwriter, musician and TV personality Peter Jozzeppi Burns was born on 5th August 1959 in Port Sunlight, Cheshire and passed away on 23rd October 2016. He was married.
As a child, Pete was very close to his mother and hardly attended school as she wanted him to be with her as much as possible. He got interested in fashion and make-up from a young age, after seeing his mother changing outfits several times daily. He left school at the age of 14.
Pete had an older brother who, like him, wished to take a musical career and they used to listen to songs together. For 7 years, he worked as a record shop assistant and in 1977, formed part of a punk group named ‘Mystery Girls’. Two years later, the band ‘Nightmares in Wax’ was created. They released 2 singles which included 3 songs each, but no album was issued. Then in 1980, the band’s name was changed to ‘Dead or Alive’ and 4 years later, they had a number one UK hit ‘You Spin me Round’ which eventually became a worldwide hit.
Burns was known for his partly male and partly female appearances but also his deep baritone voice. Once he stated that he was addicted to plastic surgeries and admitted that he had around 300 of them.
‘Dead or Alive’ had 6 studio, 6 compilation and 2 video albums, 17 music videos and 28 singles. During the 90s and 00s, Pete recorded 2 non-album singles with the duo ‘Glam’ and duo ‘Pet Shop Boys’ respectively, whilst in 2010, he released the song ‘Never marry an Icon’ as a solo artist.
Burns also appeared in a few TV shows and published a book. He died suddenly from a cardiac arrest in October 2016 at the age of 57.
