American singer-songwriter and musician Daryl Hall was born 79 years ago as Daryl Franklin Hohl in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, is divorced and has a son. He is best known as one of the founders of the duo ‘Hall & Oates’.
Daryl attended high school and whilst there began recording, graduated and then went to university with music as his main subject. During this time, he formed a vocal harmony group named the ‘Temptones’ with 4 fellow students, and together recorded some singles. Later on in 1967, Daryl met John Oates and performed together, joined other bands and recorded other artists’ tracks.
As ‘Hall & Oates’, the duo had 18 studio, 11 live and 27 compilation albums, 35 music videos and 63 singles. Over a 10-year period, during the 70s and 80s, they had 6 US number one singles which are ‘Rich Girl’, ‘Kiss on my List’, ‘Private Eyes’, ‘I can’t go for That (no can do),’ ‘Maneater’ and ‘Out of Touch’. In the history of music, ‘Hall & Oates’ are the only duo who have had the most record sales.
Hall also worked as a solo artist and his debut album was released in 1980. To date, he had 6 albums – the latest one released in 2024, named ‘D’, and 27 singles. Over the years, he has collaborated with various artists by writing and producing songs as well as performing with some of them. Apart from music, Daryl also appeared in a couple of TV shows.
In 2014, Daryl, together with John, was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
