American actor Benjamin Bratt was born 62 years ago in San Francisco, California, is married and has 2 children.

After finishing high school Benjamin continued with his studies at university from where he obtained a BFA.  Afterwards, he applied for an MFA programme at a Conservatory Theatre but dropped out prior to getting his degree to act in his first TV movie called ‘Juarez’.

Bratt’s acting career took off in 1987 when he performed in several theatrical plays.  The following year, he starred in the film stated above, then in another TV movie in a supporting role as well as debuted on the big screen in ‘Lovers, Partners and Spies’.  At the end of the 80s, beginning of the 90s, Benjamin appeared in numerous episodes of the TV series ‘Knightswatch’ and ‘Nasty Boys’.

After starring in some more films, Bratt made a career breakthrough when he was cast in famous movies like ‘The River Wild’ opposite Kevin Bacon and Meryl Streep and ‘Clear and Present Danger’ alongside Harrison Ford.

In 1995, Benjamin was offered a main role in the popular series ‘Law & Order’ in which he portrayed Detective Reynaldo Curtis for 3 seasons, followed by a guest role interpreting the same character for one season.  This role rendered him an international star.  He decided to leave this series in 2009 after starring in 95 episodes.  During those same years, he acted in various films and other TV series including ‘the Next Best Thing,’ ‘Miss Congenialiity’, ‘Traffic’, ‘Catwoman’, ‘The Great Raid’, ‘After the Storn’, ‘E-Ring’ and ‘The Cleaner’.

From then to date, Bratt continued with his career and appeared in 12 TV productions and 20 movies.  Next year, he is expected to star in a movie called ‘Balls Up’ which release date is still to be announced.

Benjamin is also an active philanthropist and supports several charitable organizations such as the American Indian Movement.

During his +38-year career so far, Benjamin won 11 awards including 5 American Latino Media Arts, a Blockbuster Entertainment and an Imagen.  Also, last year he received a university honorary doctorate.
