American actress and film-maker Diane Keaton was born 77 years ago in Los Angeles, California and has an adopted son and daughter.
Whilst in high school, Diane took part in singing and acting clubs, as well as a school production. She later attended college and briefly sang in nightclubs.
In 1968, Diane started performing in a rock musical in Broadway called ‘Hair’ which went on for 9 months. Afterwards, she starred alongside actor Woody Allen in his own stage production ‘Play it Again, Sam’. Keaton’s first movie was ‘Lovers and other Strangers’, released in 1970, followed by guest roles in several TV series.
Diane rose to fame two years later when she acted in the famous movie ‘The Godfather’, in the role of Michael Corleone’s girlfriend/wife. She also starred in its sequel ‘The Godfather II’. For the rest of the 70s, Keaton acted in various movies which were mainly written, produced and directed by Woody Allen like ‘Sleeper’, ‘Love and Death’, ‘Manhattan’ and ‘Annie Hall’.
Keaton pursued with her career and starred in several films, even directing her very f1irst movie ‘Heaven’ in 1987, plus directing some TV series episodes and music videos. In 1990, she went back to star in ‘The Godfather Part III’ and the year that followed, was cast in ‘The Father of the Bride’ alongside Steve Martin, and was a major hit, so much so that she also starred in its sequel in 1995. Another famous and successful movie Diane acted in was ‘The First Wives Club’ a year later.
To date, Diane acted in over 50 movies and around 15 TV productions. She is the recipient of more than 20 awards including an Academy, a British Academy Film and 2 Golden Globe, amongst others.
Apart from acting, Keaton likes to sing, is a successful photographer as well as a real estate developer. Diane also supports several philanthropic institutions.
