American singer-songwriter and musician Kevin Patrick Cronin was born 74 years ago in Evanston, Illinois, is married and has 6 children. He is best known as the lead singer/guitarist of former rock band REO Speedwagon.
When he was a child, Kevin attended elementary school and continued his studies in high school where he graduated. When he was 14-years old, he began to play the guitar in bands and in later years joined a band named ‘Fuchsia’ with which he played professionally.
In 1971, just some time after REO Speedwagon released their debut album, Kevin became a member of this group and recorded their second album the following year. However, due to differences between the band members and failing to attend to relearsals, Cronin left and embarked on a brief solo career and returning with the group 4 years later, in 1976.
During the 70s, the band released 8 studio albums, but they rose to fame at the beginning of the 80s when their 9th album ‘High Infidelity’ was released in November of that year. It peaked to number one on the Billboard 200 chart and remained there for 15 weeks, eventually becoming their best-selling album the following year with over 10 million record sales and certified 10 times Platinum. It featured the number one hit ‘Keep on Loving You’.
Over the years, the band had 7 more studio albums and in 1984 had another number one hit single ‘Can’t Fight this Feeling’. They continued touring the world, both on their own and also in collaboration with other groups such as ‘Chicago’, ‘Tesla’, ‘Train’, ‘Styx’ and ‘Status Quo’. Cronin is known to be a very down-to-earth person who loves to connect with the public during his performances.
In December last year, Kevin revealed that REO Speedwagon was ending and the touring band and himself were proceeding under a different name.
