American actor Walter Stacy Keach Jr was born 84 years ago in Savannah, Georgia, is married and has 2 adopted children.
At the age of 18, Stacy graduated from high school, then continued his studies in a summer programme and later attended university from where he obtained a BA degree in English and another one in Dramatic Art, followed by a Master degree in Fine Arts.
His acting career commenced in the summer of 1962 when he performed in a theatrical play by Shakespeare called ‘The Comedy of Errors’. By the end of that decade, he had already acted in 30 other stage productions including ‘Romeo and Juliet’, ‘Hamlet’, ‘Henry IV, Parts 1 & 2’ and ‘King Lear’. From the beginning of the 70s to date, Keach appeared in more than 30 stage plays on and off-Broadway.
Stacy made his small screen debut in 1964 whilst his first movie role was 4 years later in ‘The Heart is a lonely Hunter’. Afterwards, he continued interpreting various characters in films of different genres (both on TV and in cinemas), sitcoms, miniseries, drama etc. He is probably best known for his role of private investigator Mike Hammer in ‘Mickey Spillane’s Mike Hammer’ which ran from 1984 until 1987 for a total of 48 episodes. Between 1997 and 1998, Keach reprised his role as Hammer in the 26 episodes of ‘Mike Hammer, Private Eye’ whilst also being its executive producer. Twelve years later, he was cast in the dark comedy sitcom ‘Titus’ and appeared in 54 episodes. He also starred in 23 episodes of ‘Prison Break’ and since 2007 he has been the narrator of the documentary TV series ‘American Greed’.
With regards to films, Stacy acted in over 75 movies and will be starring in 3 upcoming films: ‘Jay Kelly’, which is expected to be released in November this year, starring also George Clooney and Adam Sandler, ‘Lost and Found in Cleveland’ and ‘Death of a Witch’, which release dates are still to be advised.
During his +60-year career, Keach received 15 awards, including 4 Drama Desk, a Golden Globe, 2 Helen Hayes, a Hollywood Film and a Critics, amongst others. In addition, he was inducted in the American Theatre Hall of Fame in 2015 and 4 years later received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
