TODAY'S CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY... LORELLA CUCCARINI

Italian singer, dancer, actress and TV personality Lorella Cuccarini Persili was born 60 years ago in Rome, is married and has 4 children.

At the age of 9, she began to take dancing lessons and also performed as a chorus girl in theatrical productions.  Then, when she was 20 years old, famous Italian TV presenter Pippo Baudo chose her to be part of the then popular variety show ‘Fantastico’ aired on Rai Uno, where she was a showgirl for two consecutive years.

Afterwards, she presented another variety show ‘Odiens’, this time on Mediaset, which theme song ‘La Notte Vola’ sung by Lorella herself was a great success.

During the 90s, she teamed up with another presenter, Marco Columbro, with whom she conducted several programmes of Paperissima and Buona Domenica.  In 1993, she assisted Pippo Baudo again in the prestigious yearly event of the San Remo Festival.

Two years later, Lorella participated in the same festival with the song ‘Un’altro amore No’, placing 10th.  She then continued to sing the theme songs of the programmes she presented.

Lorella also performed in several theatrical productions particularly musicals like ‘Grease’ as well as acted in various fiction TV series like ‘Piazza di Spagna’ and ‘L’Isola di Pietro 2’.  In addition, she also conducted a radio programme, appeared in several TV commercials, published 2 books and released 6 albums.

In 1994, Lorella co-founded the Association ‘Trenta Ore Per La Vita’, which collects funds to help humanitarian and social interests.

During her +38-year career, Cuccarini received over 40 awards including 12 Telegatto, amongst many others.  In 2011, she was honoured with the title of knight of the Order of Merit of Italy.
