TODAY'S CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY... CHRISTOPHER CROSS

American singer-songwriter, composer and musician Christopher Cross was born 73 years ago as Christopher Charles Geppert in San Antonio, Texas, is divorced and has 2 children.

As a kid, he attended high school and graduated in 1969.  During his teenage years, Cross formed a band named ‘Christopher Cross’ with 3 other members and moved to another city, playing cover versions and getting paid in cash.  In addition, they recorded demos of original tracks.  Apart from songwriting and singing, Christopher is also a professional guitarist and has replaced other musicians during other artists’ concerts.

In late 1979, Cross released his debut album as a solo artist, which featured the hit singles ‘Ride like the Wind’, ‘Sailing’ and ‘Never be the Same’, all released in 1980.  The following year, the track composed by himself ‘Arthur’s Theme’ (Best that you can Do), topped the US charts and was also used as the main theme song for the movie ‘Arthur’.

A second album was released in 1983 and included the tracks ‘All Right’ and ‘Think of Laura’ which placed 3rd and 1st respectively on the US Adult Contemporary Charts.  Afterwards, Christopher’s popularity began to decline in view that his style of music did not seem to fit in the new US mainstream music scene.

In the last 4 decades, Cross released 13 studio albums, 5 compilations, 3 soundtracks and 12 singles.  He also collaborated with several artists as musician a well as backing vocalist.

During his +50-year career, Christopher received 5 Grammy, 1 Golden Globe, 1 Academy and 1 ASCAP Film and Television Music Awards.
