German singer-songwriter Marian Gold was born 71 years ago as Hartwig Schierbaum in Herford, is married and has 7 children.  He is best known as the German synth-pop group ‘Alphaville’ lead singer.

When he was in his twenties, Marian created the group ‘Chinchilla Green’, and in 1981, formed the band ‘Forever Young’, which then changed its name to ‘Alphaville’. This title was taken from a sci-fi movie released way back in 1965.

He sang several of the group’s hits like ‘Forever Young’, ‘Dance with Me’, ‘Sounds Like a Melody’ and ‘Big in Japan’, amongst others.  Gold is the only existing group member since its formation, as all the others were replaced.

In 1992, Marian released ‘So Long Celeste’, his first album as a solo artist.  The second one followed 4 years later.  In 2018, Gold and the band went to Hollywood, USA and presented 2 concerts in 2 days which were also live-streamed.

As ‘Alphaville’, the band released 8 studio, 1 live, 6 compilation, 3 video and 1 remix albums, 3 box sets and 29 singles.  In 1984, they won a Goldene Europa award for Best Group as well as 2 Rockbjornen awards for Best Foreign Group and Best Foreign Album.
