69TH EDITION OF THE EUROVISION SONG CONTEST

Last week on 13th, 15th and 17th May, the yearly, much awaited Eurovision Song contest was held in Basel, Switzerland. 

On the 2 semi-final nights, it was hosted by Swiss TV presenter and singer Sandra Studer as well as German and Swiss comedian and TV presenter Hazel Brugger, whilst on the final night they were joined by Swiss and Italian TV presenter and former model Michelle Hunziger.

Out of 37 participants, 26 countries competed in the night of the final.  These were:

Switzerland, Malta, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Italy, UK, France, Ukraine, Germany, Austria, Estonia, Armenia, Spain, Portugal, Israel, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Ireland, Greece, Iceland , Poland, Netherlands, San Marino, Albania and Latvia.

AUSTRIA won the contest with a total of 436 points with the song ‘Wasted Love‘.  It was represented by singer JJ.

ISRAEL who was represented by singer Yuval Raphael with the track ‘New Day Will Rise‘, arrived 2nd, obtaining 357 points

ESTONIA arrived in 3rd place with 356 points and was represented by rapper Tommy Cash who interpreted the song ‘Espresso Macchiato‘.

Austria has participated 57 times in the ESC, with the first appearance in 1957 and won first place thrice: 1966, 2014 and this year.
