CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY TODAY...HUGH JACKMAN

Australian actor Hugh Michael Jackman was born on 12th October 1968 in Sydney, is married and has 2 children.

When he was a kid, Hugh loved to go to the beach and on camping trips.  He went to primary then grammar school, and later took a year break from studying and taught Physical Education.  He resumed his studies in two different universities, graduating with a BA in Communications, as well as a degree in Performing Arts.

Hugh’s acting career began in 1995, when he was offered a role in a TV drama series.  During the rest of the 90s, he took part in a theatrical production of ‘Beauty and the Beast’, participated in an annual cabaret festival, hosted a Christmas traditional yearly event and starred in a couple of movies and TV series.

Jackman became a real star in the year 2000, when he was given the part of ‘Wolverine’ in the movie ‘X-Men’, originally intended for actor Russell Crowe, who himself recommended Hugh for the role.  This movie was based on the famous characters from Marvel Comics.

It was quite a challenge for Hugh to characterise ‘Wolverine’.  He had a few lines but a lot of action, so he had to study martial arts, boxing fights and most of all get accustomed to wearing ‘Wolverine’s’ claws.  Hugh starred in all the 9 ‘X-Men’ movies, the last one released in 2017.

Apart from these movies, Jackman starred in several other films of different genres such as ‘Kate & Leopold’, ‘Swordfish’, ‘Van Helsing’, ‘The Prestige’, ‘The Fountain’ and ‘Scoop’.  He also voiced animated movie characters in ‘Happy Feet’ and ‘Flushed Away’.

Hugh is also a singer and toured Australia as well as the rest of the world.  He performed songs taken from famous musicals like ‘Les Miserables’ and ‘The Greatest Showman’.

Jackman is an avid philanthropist and supports many charitable organisations regarding poverty, climate change and AIDS, amongst others.

During his career, Hugh starred in over 40 movies, appeared in more than 35 TV shows/productions and musicals/concerts, as well as released several music albums.  He received an Emmy, a Golden Globe, a Grammy and 2 Tony Awards, plus several other awards.

Hugh also entered the Guinness Book of Records for his 17-year long ‘Wolverine’ role in all 9 movies, as well as received the Order of Australia medal for his achievements and performing arts service.
