
Actor Sir David Courtney Suchet CBE was born 77 years ago in Paddington, London, England, is married and has 2 children.
After attending boarding school and then an independent school, David joined a youth theatre as well as a music and dramatic arts academy as he was interested in acting. His career started in a stage play in 1969 and throughout the years performed in more than 40 productions held in theatres all around England. The majority are plays written by William Shakespeare and include ‘Romeo & Juliet’, ‘King Lear’, ‘The Tempest’, ‘The Taming of the Shrew’, ‘Antony & Cleopatra’, ‘Amadeus’ and ‘Othello’, amongst many others.
Apart from stage plays, David starred in about 60 TV productions such as series and documentaries and included lead roles in the serials ‘Oppenheimer’ and ‘The Way we live Now’. He rose to international fame when he was the main protagonist in Agatha Christie’s ‘Poirot’ which ran between 1989 and 2013. David also acted in over 35 movies such as ‘The Missionary’, ‘A Perfect Murder’, ‘Flood’ and ‘Dinner with Edward’, to name a few.
During his +50-year career, David received numerous awards and honours including a Royal Television Society’s Award and 2 Variety Club awards. In 2010, he received an honorary degree from Kent University and the following year, for his services to drama, he was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire. He also won a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014 and received the title of Knight Bachelor in 2020 for drama and charity services.
