Italian singer and songwriter Giuseppe Mango was born on 6th November 1954 in Lagonegro in the province of Potenza and passed away on 8th December 2014. He was married and had 2 children.
Mango showed a passion for music from a young age, particularly hard rock and soul, and used to listen to big artists like Deep Purple, Aretha Franklin and Peter Gabriel. When he was a teenager, he joined and played with a band together with his brother and did not sing in his language except some tracks by Lucio Battisti. Later, he entered university where he studied sociology, however, decided to abandon his studies to try his luck in the music industry.
His debut album came out in 1976, from which 2 tracks were covered by 2 prominent female singers, Mia Martini and Patti Pravo. By 1982, 2 more albums were released, however, none of the 3 productions received the expected success. Tempted to quit his career, Mango then met Mogol who is an Italian lyricist and immediately changed his mind.
In fact, his career took a positive turn with the release of his 4th album in 1985, which featured the track ‘Il Viaggio’ with which he participated in that year’s San Remo Music Festival. More success arrived with the 2 albums that followed that included the hits ‘Lei Verra`’, ‘Oro’ and ‘Bella D’Estate’.
From 1990 until his demise, Mango had 15 more albums, split between live, studio and compilations, and 1 of them was also recorded in Spanish. As a songwriter, Giuseppe composed songs for various other artists like Mietta, Scialpi, Loredana Berte` and Loretta Goggi, amongst others.
Mango died from a heart attack on 8th December 2014 at the age of 60 whilst he was performing on stage.
