American actress, producer and author Jamie Lee Curtis was born 65 years ago in Santa Monica, California, is married and has 2 children. Her parents were actors Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh.
After graduating from high school, Jamie attended university where she studied law, however, she left after the first semester as she wished to become an actress. During the 70s, she started her career by guest appearing in a TV series, followed by several roles in others like ‘Colombo’, ‘The Love Boat’ and ‘Charlie’s Angels’. Her big screen debut arrived in 1978 in the horror movie ‘Halloween’ which was a big success. She then starred in various other horror films and got this ‘scream queen’ reputation.
In the next decade, Curtis proceeded with acting in more horror movies, plus films of other genres like thrillers, comedy and romantic drama, not just on the big screen but also on TV, including sitcoms and series. To name a few: ‘Halloween II’, ‘Trading Places’, ‘Love Letters’, ‘As Summers Die’, ‘A Fish called Wanda’ and ‘Anything but Love’.
By the beginning of the 90s, Jamie had become an established actress and was very popular. She continued with her career and starred in a string of movies, one of which was the famous action-comedy film ‘True Lies’ alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger. Others include ‘Blue Steel’, ‘Forever Young’, ‘House Arrest’, Halloween H20: 20 years later’ and ‘Nicholas’ Gift’.
Since the year 2000, Curtis interpreted numerous characters in many films, particularly reprising her role as Laurie Strode in the next 4 sequels of the 1978 movie ‘Halloween’, namely ‘Halloween Resurrection’, ‘Halloween’, ‘Halloween Kills’ and ‘Halloween Ends’.
In 2006, Jamie stated that she was closing her ‘acting’ chapter to dedicate more time to her family, however, after a 7-month break she resumed her career and continued to star in several films and TV programmes/shows.
Curtis supports several charitable organisations regarding children suffering from AIDS, Women in Recovery and a children’s hospital.
During her +45-year career, Jamie received 38 awards out of 112 nominations, including an Academy, a BAFTA, 2 Golden Globe and 18 Critics’. She was also inducted in the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1998 and received other honours like Woman of the Year and a Career Achievement Award, amongst others.
