American singer and actor Marvin (changed to Michael in 1984) Lee Aday, professionally known as Meat Loaf, was born on 27th September 1947 in Dallas, Texas and passed away on 20th January 2022. He was divorced and had 2 daughters.
As a teen, he attended high school where he performed in stage productions and played football. After graduating, he attended college and then university. When Marvin was 19, his mum passed away due to cancer and with the inheritance money he decided to rent an apartment in Dallas to move away from his bad-tempered dad. He stayed there for a few months and then flew to Los Angeles.
Once in L.A., Marvin formed the band ‘Meat Loaf Soul’, received several recording contracts and performed in various venues as opening acts for other artists. The band changed its name several times as well as its lead guitarists. They released a single named ‘Once upon a Time’, followed by another track named ‘Hello’. Afterwards, Meat Loaf was part of the cast of the musical ‘Hair’, which was very successful. Following this, he performed in another 2 theatrical productions in Detroit and in 1971 recorded an album with his fellow ‘Hair’ performer. This included a single named ‘What you see is what you Get’.
Marvin then continued performing on stage whilst also doing opening acts in various singers’ concerts. He then decided to quit theatre and focus on music, with his debut album ‘Bat out of Hell’ released in 1977.
From that year until his demise in 2020, Meat Loaf released 11 more studio albums, 7 live and 20 compilation albums, plus 50 singles. He had an international hit single ‘I’d do anything for Love (but I won’t do that) featuring Lorraine Crosby in 1993. It reached number one in 28 countries.
Apart from music and theatre, Marvin was also an actor and starred in over 45 films and more than 35 TV productions including series, movies, talk shows, sitcoms etc.
Meat Loaf passed away on 20th January 2022, possibly from COVID-19 complications, at the age of 74.
