English singer-songwriter, musician and producer Christopher Sean Lowe was born 65 years ago in Blackpool, Lancashire, was never married and has no children. He is best known as one of the founders of the synth-pop duo ‘Pet Shop Boys’.
As a young student, Chris played the trombone at school as part of a dance band. He took after his grandfather who was a trombonist in a jazz group. Lowe also learnt the piano. He later attended university to study architecture but never graduated in view that he quit to embark on a music career, thus forming the duo ‘Pet Shop Boys’ with Neil Tennant in 1981.
Chris mainly performs as a keyboardist and sometimes a few spoken words. In two particular tracks i.e. ‘What have I done to deserve This?’ and ‘I want a Lover’, he plays the trombone. Over the years, Lowe also made some solo appearances. As an avid Arsenal F.C. fan, he wrote and produced a song named ‘Do the Right Thing’ for footballer Ian Wright. In 1994, whilst the duo were on a tour in Australia, Chris made a cameo appearance in the famous Australian soap opera ‘Neighbours’. Ten years later, he provided music for a sunscreen brand commercial and in 2011 was featured vocalist of a group’s song.
As Pet Shop Boys, the duo had 4 UK number one hits, all during the 80s. These are: ‘West End Girls’, ‘It’s a Sin’, ‘Always on my Mind’ and ‘Heart’. They released more than 50 albums, 79 singles and 60 music videos and won 26 Awards including 3 Brit and 2 Ivor Novello.
