TODAY'S CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY... JALEEL WHITE

 

American actor Jaleel Ahmad White was born 49 years ago in Culver City, California, is married and has a daughter.

As a kid, Jaleel attended secondary followed by high school, then went to university and graduated in 2001.  At just 3 years old, he appeared in a TV commercial and 5 years later, made his small screen debut guest starring in the famous sitcom ‘The Jeffersons’.  During that decade, White auditioned for roles in sitcoms and had some guest and supporting roles as well, however,

In 1989, when he was 12 years old, Jaleel started the character of Steve Urkel in the popular sitcom ‘Family Matters’.  Initially, this guest role was meant to be a one-time appearance, however, after starring in all episodes of the first season and becoming very popular, he was confirmed as part of the cast and continued to interpret this character until the end of the series i.e. 1998.  He also wrote 2 of the sitcom’s episodes.  Between 1993 and 1994, White voiced 2 characters of the animated TV series ‘Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog’ and ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’.

Jaleel proceeded with his career and in the last 3 decades starred in about 50 TV productions both as guest, main cast and voicing animated characters.  These include ‘Grown Up’ (of which he was also the producer), ‘Fake It till you Make It’, ‘Total Blackout’, ‘Drunk History’, ‘Me, Myself and I’ and ‘The Big Show Show’.  Since 2024, he has been hosting the game show ‘Flipside’.  Jaleel made his big screen debut in 2010 in the movie ‘5th of July’ and since then to date has appeared/voiced animated characters in over 25 films. 

During his career so far, White won a Young Artist and 3 NAACP Image Awards.
