CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY TODAY...ALISON MOYET

 

Genevieve Alison Jane Ballard nee’ Moyet was born 61 years ago in Essex England, married twice and has 3 children.  She is a singer as well as a song writer.

When she was 16, Alison took piano tuner lessons and later formed part of various bands of different music genres including blues and punk rock.  Then, at age 20, she formed the duo group Yazoo.  They released 2 albums and had various hits like ‘Don’t Go’, ‘Only You’ and ‘Nobody’s Diary’.

After the duo split in 1983, Alison started her solo career and her first album was issued.  It was very successful and included top ten hits like ‘Invisible’, ‘Love Resurrection’ and ‘All Cried Out’.  A year later, she had the equally successful hits ‘Is this Love?’ and ‘Weak in the Presence of Beauty’.

In the next 3 decades, Alison released 7 studio, 3 compilation, 2 live and 2 extended plays, plus 26 singles and 2 videos on DVD.  She also provided vocals for a number of other artists and performed in the London West End musical ‘Chicago’.

Moyet achieved 6 awards including a Brit and a Silver Clef, and in 2021 was designated member of the Order of the British Empire for her music works.
