English singer and songwriter Andy Bell was born 60 years ago as Andrew Ivan Bell in Dogsthorpe, Peterborough and is married. Andy is best known as the lead vocalist of the duo ‘Erasure’.
During the 80s, he was a member of the group ‘Void’ and performed with them. One day he saw a newspaper advert seeking a singer and he decided to apply. His audition went very well and he soon joined musician and songwriter Vince Clarke and together created the synth-pop duo ‘Erasure’.
Over the years, the duo wrote more than 200 songs and sold more 25 million albums globally. To date, ‘Erasure’ released 19 studio albums and 62 singles. Some of their most popular tracks include ‘A little Respect’, ‘Sometimes’, ‘Oh l’Amour’, ‘Stop!’ and ‘Love to hate You’ amongst others.
Bell released his debut album as a solo artist in 2005, followed by his first single ‘Crazy’. A second album was issued 5 years later in 2010. To date, Andy released 19 singles, collaborated with other artists and was also involved in several other music projects.
During the years, Andy has helped several charitable institutions, both financially and with his music, regarding HIV/Aids research, wildlife etc.
