Italian singer-songwriter, composer, record producer and architect Claudio Enrico Paolo Baglioni was born 74 years ago in Rome, is in a relationship and has a son.
Claudio began taking piano lessons at a young age, and when he was 13, he participated in a new voice talent show and sang ‘Ogni Volta’. The following year, he competed again in the same show, this time winning the contest with the track ‘I tuoi anni piu` belli’. In 1965, his parents gifted him with his very first guitar and he started composing and playing his own songs. In the meantime, Claudio applied for a course in Architecture at university.
His career began in 1970 and his first 45 laps named Una Favola Blu/Signora Lia, which, however, was of little success. His debut album came out 4 months later. In 1972, Claudio’s career took a huge step forward and he rose to fame with the big hit ‘Questo Piccolo grande Amore’, which track was awarded ‘song of the century’ in 1985.
In the following decade, Claudio had a string of worldwide hits, namely: ‘Amore Bello’, ‘E tu’, ‘Avrai’, ‘Sabato Pomeriggio, ‘Strada Facendo’ and ‘La Vita e’ Adesso’. These last two songs’ albums bearing the same name, are considered as the two best-selling albums of all time in his native Italy.
In these last 40 years, Claudio continued releasing many albums, compilations, live and DVDs. He performed in more than 2000 concerts around Italy as well as globally and sold over 60 million copies. In addition, he wrote various books and participated in several TV shows. For 2 consecutive years, namely 2018 and 2019, Claudio was one of the hosts of the San Remo Festival held at the Teatro Ariston, San Remo. He has also sung songs from some movies’ soundtracks.
Interesting to note is that in 2007, Claudio released a cover version of the Maltese song ‘L-Ahhar Bidwi f’Wied il-Ghasel’, and became the first famous international artist to ever release a Maltese song in its native language.
During his +50-year career, Baglioni received numerous awards and honours, including 6 Telegatti, 8 Vota la Voce and 8 Wind Music, amongst others.
