CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY TODAY...DAVE GAHAN

 

Dave Gahan was born as David Callcott 60 years ago in Essex, England.  He married thrice and has 2 children.  He sings and writes songs and is the lead singer of the new wave/synth pop group Depeche Mode.

During his teenage years, Dave had trouble with the law many times, and was arrested for stealing, graffiti and other criminal offences.  After being put in juvenile court, he tried his best to change and claimed that music saved his life. He was inspired by big music artists like Elvis Presley, Prince, James Brown and David Bowie.

In 1980, he joined the band Composition of Sound, which was later renamed to Depeche Mode, following a suggestion from Dave who had come across a magazine bearing the same name.  To date, the group released 14 studio albums, as well as two remixes and 4 greatest hits collections and sold over 100 million records globally.  In their home country, they had 14 Top 10 singles and also gained worldwide success with 4 Billboard chart number one singles, one of which is ‘Enjoy the Silence’. 

Dave also performs as a solo artist and in 2003 released his first studio album, which made average success.  He had another 2 studio albums, plus a compilation, a live and a video album, extended play and 7 music videos.

Gahan also contributed as a singer, songwriter and musician, with several bands including Soulsavers, SixToes,  Goldfrapp, Null & Voids & Metallica, amongst others.
