CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY TODAY... DAVID CARUSO

American retired actor and TV producer David Stephen Caruso was born 70 years ago in New York City, is divorced and has 3 children.

David attended primary and high school, graduated and found a job as a cinema usher.  There he watched a lot of movies and got inspired by famous actors like James Cagney and Humphrey Bogart.  David stated that he and his colleagues acted some scenes from the films they watched.

In 1980, Caruso made his big screen debut in ‘Getting Wasted’ followed by a role in ‘Without Warning’ in the same year.  For the rest of the 80s, he appeared in several supporting roles in ‘An Officer and a Gentleman’ (which he claims helped him get noticed), ‘First Blood’ starring Sylvester Stallone, ‘Blue City’, ‘China Girl’ and ‘Twins’ alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito.

With regards to TV, David had a recurring role in the police drama series ‘Hill Street Blues’ between 1981 and 1983.  After this production ended, he was chosen to interpret the main character of US Olympian James Brendan Connolly in the 1984 miniseries ‘The First Olympics: Athens 1896’.  Two years later, Caruso took part in the music video of the hit single by French singer Desireless ‘Voyage, Voyage’.

During the next decade, David continued with appearing in supporting roles in some movies, but achieved a major role in the 1993 police procedural series ‘NYPD Blue’, portraying Detective John Kelly.   After acting in 2 movies in 1995 and receiving negative reviews, Caruso seemed unable to demonstrate his capability to act in a leading role in films, so in 1997, he got back on the small screen starring in a law drama series.

At the beginning of the 2000s, however, David did return to movies and starred in a supporting role in ‘Proof of Life’ and a main role for which he was praised in ‘Session 9’.  His final film role was in ‘Black Point’ in 2001.

The following year, Caruso was given a leading role in the famous ‘CSI: Miami’, portraying Lieutenant Horatio Caine.  This series proved very successful and aired for 10 years between 2002 and 2012, however, it was cancelled due to low ratings.  David was the only actor to appear in all 232 episodes.

After ‘CSI: Miami’ ended, David retired from acting and started a business in art.  He owns a clothing store and founded two online video companies.

During his career, Caruso won a Golden Globe award in 1994 for his role in ‘NYPD Blue’.
