CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY TODAY...ENRICO RUGGERI

Italian singer Enrico Ruggeri was born on 5th June 1957 in the city of Milan, is divorced and has 3 children.  He also writes songs, is a TV presenter as well as radio host.

When he was a 15-year old high school student in 1972, Enrico formed the group ‘Josafat’ with some friends, which 2 years later changed to ‘Champagne Molotov’.  Then, in 1977, this group joined another band named ‘Trifoglio’, resulting in a new group ‘Decibel’.  Their first album came out a year later, but was unsuccessful.  Following this, they changed their punk music style and participated in the 1980 San Remo Music Festival with the track ‘Contessa’, which was written by Enrico himself.

Later that year, the band’s second album was released and was very successful.  They again competed in the San Remo Festival and their song placed 4th.  The band also performed in summer festivals like Un Disco Per L’Estate and Cantagiro.

In 1981, Ruggeri commenced a solo career and his debut album was released, plus also working with other music artists like Diana Est and Den Harrow.  Two years later, his second album came out and he again competed in the San Remo Festival, this time placing second with the song ‘Polvere’.  For the rest of the 80s, Enrico produced 6 albums and participated 4 more times in the San Remo Festival.  He triumphed in first place in the 1987 edition with the track ‘Si Puo` Dare di Piu`’ interpreted as a trio with established singers Umberto Tozzi and Gianni Morandi.

In the last 3 decades, Enrico had 18 albums, 3 Collections and an EP, and he continued collaborating with numerous artists by composing songs for them, amongst other works.  He also succeeded in winning the 1993 San Remo Festival with the song ‘Mistero’.  During the 2000s, Ruggeri hosted and/or appeared in several TV programmes, a movie, and was also a radio presenter.  He wrote 4 novels, 4 short stories & poems plus 4 other books.
