French singer, musician and composer F.R. David was born on 1st January 1947 as Elli Robert Fitoussi in Ferryville, French Tunisia.
F.R. David’s music career commenced in 1963 in the France’s capital city, Paris with a garage band called ‘Les Trefles’. Together they released an EP and changed the band’s name to ‘The Boots’ after new members joined the group, however, they did not achieve the expected success.
In view of this, in 1967, David decided to pursue a solo career and recorded some pop song with a French composer as well as had a few successful hits with another singer. Unfortunately, his success did not last long, so he founded a record company and started writing and producing songs for small bands.
In the early 70s, David created a rock band named ‘David Explosion’ and went on to release an album, with no success. He also acted as vocalist and guitarist for ‘Vangelis’ as well as joined French group ‘Les Variations’, featuring in their last album in 1975. Once again, he resumed his career as a solo artist and finally in 1982 had his only number one international hit single ‘Words’ which had global sales of eight million copies.
In the next decade, David concentrated on writing and composing tracks for other big artists. So far, as a solo artist, he released 8 studio albums, 4 compilation and 22 singles.
