Italian singer Francesco Renga was born in Udine as Pierfrancesco Renga on 12th June 1968 and has 2 children.
After graduating from high school, Francesco attended the Faculty of Economics and then took an Art Director course a year later. He, however, quit his studies as he wanted to focus on music and in 1983 joined a band named ‘Mondus Vivendi’. The following year, the band participated in a music competition and once again the year after. They managed to win the contest and went on to change the band’s name to ‘Timoria’.
The group’s debut album was released in 1990 and they immediately started gaining popularity not just in Italy but also across other European countries, particularly with Francesco’s impressive voice. The year after the band took part in the San Remo Music Festival and managed to win the Critics’ Award with the track ‘L’Uomo che Ride’. This was included in their second album issued in 1991. Until Francesco left the group in 1998, 5 more albums were released.
Renga started his solo career in 2000 when he released his debut album and the following year competed in the San Remo Festival in the Youths’ section and won the Critics’ Award with the single ‘Raccontami..’.
In the last 2 decades, Francesco had 13 albums and participated several times in the San Remo Festival. He triumphed in the 2005 edition with the song ‘Angelo’. He also wrote and interpreted various songs with other artists like Nek, Max Pezzali and Claudio Baglioni, as well as appeared in some music talent shows. In 2007, Renga also published a book.
