CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY TODAY...GARY NUMAN

Gary Numan was born as Gary Anthony James Webb on 8th March 1958 in London England, is married and has 3 daughters.  He is a singer, songwriter, musician and record producer.

After attending grammar school, college and joining the Air Training Corps as a teenager, Gary worked in different jobs for a while as well. When he was 15, his father gifted him with an electric guitar.  He played in several bands for some time and in 1977 joined the new wave group ‘Tubeway Army’ and soon became famous.

A year later, they released 2 singles which were, however, unsuccessful and went on to release their debut album that same year which, this time, sold out.  They had a number one UK hit single ‘Are Friends’ Electric?’.

Gary then decided to record new material and had a new backing band.  His debut solo single ‘Cars’ was an international hit and peaked to number one in several countries.  He embarked on two tours and began to experiment with new music genres such as funk and jazz.  Nine more albums were released during the 80s, featuring successful tracks like ‘Change your Mind’, ‘I can’t Stop’ and ‘This is Love’.

In the last 3 decades, Numan proceeded with his career and went on to release 11 albums, 2 of which reached number 2 in the UK charts.  Gary also collaborated with several artists like OMD, Nine Inch Nails and Radio Heart amongst others.  He is also known to have composed around 400 songs and is considered as the founder of electronic music and in 2017, he received the Ivor Novello Inspiration Award.

Apart from music, Gary is also into aviation and holds a display pilot’s license.  In 1981, he successfully carried out a flight around the world in one of his aircrafts.
