Maltese singer-songwriter and voice coach Glen Vella was born 42 years ago in Birkirkara and is married.
Glen took piano and voice lessons and later obtained a voice coaching certificate from a UK college of music and arts. His singing career took off when he was 13 years old.
In 2005, he participated for the first time in the Malta Song for Europe with the track ‘Appreciate’. Five years later i.e. in 2010, Vella competed once again in this festival and placed second with the song ‘Just a little more Love’.
Glen’s popularity arose especially after he became a residential singer on several local TV programmes such as ‘Sibtijiet Flimkien, ‘Showtime’ and ‘Kalamita’. In addition, he also sung TV and radio jingles and signature tunes, guest appeared in various concerts and TV shows, as well as played main roles in local performances of famous musicals like ‘Jesus Christ Super Star’ and ‘AbbaMania’, amongst others.
Together with other Maltese renowned artists, Glen founded the ‘Animae Gospel Choir’, which is the Maltese leading choir. Over the years, he collaborated with other famous local music authors and composers, who helped him in the release of some of his singles, eventually promoting them internationally. Vella also competed various times in overseas festivals, particularly in the Golden Stag Festival held in Romania, wherein he was a finalist.
In 2011, Glen was the winner of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest with the track ‘One Life’ and with which he represented his country in that year’s Eurovision Song Contest. Three years later, he again competed in this festival and placed third with the song ‘Breakaway’. Then, in 2021, Glen won the ‘Muzika Muzika’ song festival edition with the song ‘Harsa Biss’.
During his career so far, Vella won 3 Fidof Awards as well as a Jury Award, and was nominated twice for Best Male Artist in the Malta Music Awards.
