Nestor Alexander Haddaway was born 58 years ago in Trinidad and Tobago and is a singer, songwriter and musician.
When he was 9, he moved to the US with his mother and at 14 years old, Haddaway learnt to play the trumpet. Whilst in high school, he formed a group named ‘Chances’ and later decided to attend medical school, however, he left and moved to Germany. There he worked in bars and went on to form a company named ‘Energy’ which dealt with photo shoots and fashion shows.
His hit single ‘What is Love’ was released in 1993, gaining huge popularity all across Europe. The three singles that followed, namely ‘Life’, ‘I Miss You’ and ‘Rock My Heart’ went equally well and reached the Top 10 in various European charts.
Haddaway’s second album came out in 1995 and had moderate success. It included songs like ‘Fly Away’, ‘Catch a Fire’ and ‘Love Be Thy Name’. The next two albums, however, were not successful and did not feature on the music charts.
In the 2000s, Haddaway guest appeared in TV shows in Germany, the UK and the US and also sang in duet ‘I Love the 90’s’ together with Dr Alban. In 2009, his most successful single ‘What is Love’ was remixed by a German DJ and managed to re-enter the music charts. The year after, it emerged once again when it was remixed for Eminem’s song ‘No Love’. So far, Haddaway released 8 albums and 22 singles.
