CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY TODAY... HEATH LEDGER

Australian actor and music video director Heath Andrew Ledger was born on 4th April 1979 and passed away on 22nd January 2008.  He was in a relationship and had a daughter.

Heath attended primary and then grammar school, and at the age of 16, dropped out of school prior to graduating to pursue an acting career.  His debut was a small role in a TV movie called ‘Clowning Around’ in 1992.  For the rest of the 90s, he starred in 3 TV series, a soap opera and 4 films.

During the next decade until his demise, Ledger acted in both supporting and leading roles in numerous movies of different genres like ‘The Patriot’ alongside Mel Gibson, ‘Monster’s Ball’, ‘The Order’, ‘Casanova’, ‘Lords of Dogtown’, ‘Brokeback Mountain’, ‘Candy’, ‘I’m not There’, ‘The Dark Knight’ and his final film ‘The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus’.  Since Heath had only finished half of this movie, its director decided to alter it by including 3 of his friends and fellow actors, namely Colin Farrell, Johnny Depp and Jude Law, to play several incarnations of his character.

One of Heath’s ambitions was to become a film director.  In fact, he directed 6 music videos and was supposed to direct a movie as well.  During his 16-year career, Ledger received 36 awards out of 58 nominations, 30 of which were won posthumously.  For his interpretation as ‘The Joker’ in the film ‘The Dark Knight’ alone, Heath received 28 awards.

Ledger passed away on 22nd January 2008 at the age of 28 from acute combined drug intoxication.
