Maltese singer/songwriter Ira Losco was born in Sliema 42 years ago, is married and has 2 children.
Whilst at college, Ira joined a group named ‘Tiara’, and that is when her singing career began. She represented Malta twice in the Eurovision Song Contest, placing second with the song ‘7th Wonder’ in 2002 and placing twelfth 14 years later with the track ‘Walk on Water’. ‘7th Wonder’ achieved the best ever result for Malta.
For the event of the Xth Games of the Small States of Europe held in 2003, Ira interpreted its official song ‘Reaching Higher’. She also gave performances in more than 15 countries and sang with famous artists like Elton John, Gigi D’Alessio, Ronan Keating, Maroon 5 and Akon, amongst others. In addition, she appeared in several local TV commercials and served as a judge twice in ‘X Factor Malta’. Losco supports equal LGBT rights and acceptance, as well as anti-bullying amongst teenagers.
So far, Ira released 10 albums and over 50 singles. Amongst her most popular tracks there are ‘7th Wonder’, ‘Fejn Stahbejtli?’, ‘Spellbound’, ‘Chameleon’, ‘Walk on Water’ and ‘Hey Now’. She has also received 20 awards, including a medal ‘Ghall-Qadi tar-Repubblika’ in 2008, and is considered as one of the local most successful singers of all time.
