CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY TODAY...JACKIE JACKSON

American singer and songwriter Sigmund Esco ‘Jackie’ Jackson was born 72 years ago in Gary, Indiana, is married and has 4 children.  He is best known as one of the members of the pop band ‘Jackson 5’.

Jackie comes from a family of musicians, since his father used to play with an R & B group whilst his mother played the piano as well as the clarinet.  The group ‘The Jackson Brothers’ was created by his father, including Jackie and his 4 siblings.

His younger brother Michael became lead singer of the group, named ‘Jackson 5’.  Their dad guided them during rehearsals which they performed after school and he soon realised that they were very talented.  Their mum also gave them a helping hand when she sang harmonies with her kids.

The brothers grew professionally in a span of just 2 years and used to perform in clubs and talent shows.  By the early 70s, the band had already achieved huge success with 4 number one hits namely ‘I want you Back’, ‘ABC’, ‘The Love you Save’ and ‘I’ll be There’.  Success continued and in 1981 they had the international hit ‘Can you feel It’ which was composed by Jackie and Michael.  Other notable tracks include ‘Wait and ‘Torture’.

Whilst still a member of ‘Jackson 5’, Jackie tried his luck as a solo artist and his debut album was released in 1973.  Sixteen years later, his first solo album with a different signing label was issued, which was of minor success, whilst his first and second singles faired better.

In 2002, Jackie created and managed two record companies in Las Vegas.  Then, in 2012, he joined his 3 brothers (since Michael had passed away 3 years earlier) on their first concert tour as ‘The Jacksons’ after 28 years.
